Programme

A collaborative project comprising a core of three up-and-coming London based musicians. This concert combines original compositions and improvisation within traditional frameworks. With backgrounds in different folkloric and classical traditions such as Klezmer, Indian Classical and Balinese Gamalan, the trio combine flowing melodies, complex rhythmic structures and ethereal textures.

Performers

Camilo Tirado

is a tabla player and multi-percussionist, whose work covers a variety of musical subcultures, from Hindustani classical, right through to Reggae and electronic music. He is currently studying Taal (Indian rhythmic tradition) with Hanif Khan, a proponent of the delicate and melodic Delhi gharana and samba with Barak Schmool. In 2008, he was awarded a residency as an emerging artist at the South Bank Centre. He has recently been touring with Talvin Singh, Terry Riley, Aruba Red, and has worked closely with Nitin Sawhney.

Francesca Ter-Berg

is a distinguished cellist and specialist in klezmer and gypsy music, which she has studied with Dr Alan Bern and Manouche maestro Tcha Limberger. She has composed for dance and theatre groups and collaborated with artists such as Riz MC, Maverick Sabre, Kora player Mosi Conde, and master Oud player Ahmed Mukhtar. Francesca performs regularly with the London Klezmer Quartet, Rhythms Of the City Samba band, Sam Lee and teaches Klezmer at the School of Oriental and African Studies.

Jonah Brody

International award winning composer Jonah Brody is the 2009 recipient of the Darmasiswa scholarship for research into Shadow puppetry and traditional music in Bali. He was also awarded an ICOMOS fieldwork grant 2007 for research on Indian percussion in Varanasi. A graduate of music from the School of Oriental and African studies in London, Jonah is now working in and around London as a musical director, composer and performer with his own band the Super Best Friends Club.
