A set of cultural fusions takes place on 16 June 2001 at London's October Gallery.  Bringing together the classical Indian influences of sarod with western keyboards, Lawrence Ball, Lisa Moskow and Stephen Ross create a coalition of musical worlds.

As founder of the Planet Tree Music Festival, Lawrence Ball aims to present new and untested music to his audience.  This concert sees him in his various roles as composer, keyboardist, improviser and computer graphics innovator, to bring a visionary mix of East and West to the UK.

The concert also brings to England California-based Lisa Moskow  - renowned virtuoso of the sarod, and pupil of the musician who brought sarod music to the west, Ali Akbar Khan.  Stephen Ross accompanies her on a variety of world instruments, including the shakuhachi flute and silver flute, slack key guitar and didjuridu.  They have played throughout the US and Europe, their music retaining a strong Eastern mysticism but also remaining accessible through its more up-tempo pieces. Ultimately, the songs reflect the influences of world music on the artists, their material emerging from a number of sources, including classical North Indian, Irish, Middle Eastern,
and Japanese musics.

Reflecting the ambience on stage, Dave Snowdon and Lawrence Ball will be using their own computer graphic system - visual harmony - which complements the music as stunning visual imagery.

This evening of exceptional multimedia fusions aims to enlighten and enliven the senses.  As a preview to 2001's Planet Tree Music Festival, it brings the East to the West, and the contemporary to the traditional.

Note for Editors:

The sarod is a 25-stringed lute from North India that is resonant with overtones. It has a fretless fingerboard which allows the musician to utilize the sounds between the notes. Planet Tree Music Festival is a festival which creates new precedents in integration of contemporary classical music with multi-media, other cultures and the subconscious dimension.
